Resolution Health
Resolution Health is a medium sized medical aid with about 150,000 lives covered. It was registered in 1998 and has a Global Credit Rating of A, for claims paying ability with claims being processed within 48 hours. It is the medical aid that Sanlam has chosen to market through its agents. Their range of products includes a hospital plan with the rest being traditional in structure.
All benefits are pro-rated depending on when in the year one joins the scheme.
A member has the option of changing their plan without medical underwriting once per year effective from the 1st of January the following year.
This hospital plan is very good value. For a premium of under R500 for a single member, it covers hospital at 100% of NHRPL with no annual limit, with emergency evacuation to a hospital included. Chronic medication for the Prescribed Minimum Benefit conditions could be a problem because they are only available from a state facility.
All day-to-day claims e.g. doctor’s consultations, medicines, etc, are paid from specified benefits with an additional savings account. Claims submitted to the medical aid would first be paid out of the specified benefits until that is exhausted and then from the savings account. Any portion of the savings not used would be carried forward to the following year. Private chronic medication benefit is included for the Prescribed Minimum Benefit conditions. Hospitalisation is limited but a Top Up product can be taken to remove the limit.
The Prestige plan provides comprehensive cover for both hospitalization and day-to-day benefits. The overall Hospital Benefit is unlimited and offers freedom of choice as to which hospital the member utilizes. Medical Specialists are covered at 200% of the NHRPL in hospital and at 150% of the NHRPL out of hospital. The plan offers reasonable value for money for the member looking for a comprehensive plan.
Top-Up Cover
